What I have Learned wk 8

Throughout this class i have gained so much knowledge, insight and understanding on diversity, cultures and how they affect children. I hope that I can take the knowledge and understandings i have gained from this course and the program itself and implement them in all current and future settings working with children and families. Parents need to be educated on how their biases, invisible or not, are unintentionally passed down to theri children and how it affects their learning and development.
I would like each child and family to have a deeper understanding of diversity and cultures so that they can become unbiased and help their children become more accepting and understanding of others so that each child may reach their full potential. It is an honor to be an early childhood professional. I hope there will come a time when the goal of making the curriculum all inclusive of diversity, equality and social justices so that its not something that has to be thought of every day, it just is.

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you and greatly appreciate all the hard work you have done. I have learned so much from each of you and look forward to seeing you in future classes. Our journey is almost at an end. Thank you. I wish each and everyone of you all the best in each of your future endeavors!! Good luck!

  1. Rica, yet again we are at the end of another wonderful learning experience. I too plan to use the many strategies we discussed in my teaching as well as in my dealings with families, colleagues, and community members. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your weekly opinions that often cheered me on and energized me for another week. Take care and hope to have future classes with you!!

  2. Rica, thank you for your support during the class. I too agree we have to work at teaching parents as well as teaching children--it is a dual process because at the root of every child is their family. All the best to you and I am sure we will cross paths in future course work!

    1. Rica, I strongly agree with your statement about educating parents as well, a lot of times parents don't realize how their opinions or even actions effect how a child responds to a situation. Children learn from their environment and their experiences. As educators and parents we must be role models and set a great examples for the children we work with.
Best of Luck to you in the future!

  3. Rica-

I had not thought out biases in the light of "invisible or not". That is a great way of thinking about it. Sometimes as a parent you don't realize that your passing a bias along to your child. Best wishes for the rest of your journey.

  4. Making Anti-bias everyday will be our work to do and those that we work with and mentor. Let start something and keep it alive. Hope to see you in the next class.
